My Flower Pot Won!

There were 14 entries in the Flower Pot Contest last night at Guild.  I WON!!!  WOO! HOO!  I get a ticket for entering and 20 tickets for winning.  I can put these tickets in the flower pots at our quilt show, www.whqg.org,  in April to win one of the Flower Pot Raffle items.  I have my eye on several prizes.

We need more pots, so the contest will be held again in March.  I wish that I had taken my camera last night, there were some really cute entries.

Bunnies, Bunnies and More Bunnies

I just received an update from my fellow Bee member, Judith, on the Bunnies.  These will go in the Guild Shop in April at the West Houston Quilters Guild Show.  Check out our website for details, whqg.org.

Judith and I had a little workshop/sew-in last year to get the bunnies started.  I helped some with these bunnies.  All the real credit goes to Judith for finishing and decorating each one with care.  Below is a beautiful picture of  the completed Bunnies.

A Productive Week

I finished the Six Placemats and Tablerunner for the "Flower Pot Raffle" entry by my Bee.  Yeah, now I can breathe.

Yesterday, I hot glued all the flowers on my Flower Pot Competition Entry.  They will be judges on Wednesday night at our Guild Meeting.  I only have one war wound.  It has been a while since I have used the glue gun.  I forgot to put a bowl of water and ice beside me.  After the first blister, I remembered.

At the end of the show, the pot will be turned over and a winner will be drawn from each pot.  The pot has to look good, upside down and right side up.  I glued a Wildflower fabric on the top of the pot, because it has to fit into the saucer.  The thick flowers would have caused a problem.

Thank you and a BIG HUG to all the ladies that posted fabric flower tutorials on their blogs.  I looked at a lot of them and used parts of several and yo-yo flowers to fill in any empty spaces.  The leaves on the saucer and top are two pieces of fabric, steam-a-seamed together and cut out.  Then I sewed a vein down the middle.

The Flower Pot Raffle

I mentioned "The Flower Pot Raffle" in my last post.  Our Guild use to call this "The Tin Can Raffle".  The theme for our Quilt Show this year is "In A Quilter's Garden".  Thus, the name change.  We are replacing the tin cans with decorated flower pots. People buy tickets and put a ticket or many tickets, if you really want to win that item, in the flower pot that goes with that item.  At the end of the show, a name is drawn from each flower pot to win that item.

We are having a contest for the best decorated flower pot.  The winner gets a large amount of tickets to go into the flower pots.  Remember that quilt that must come to live with me?  Below is a sneak peek at what I am planning for the big win.  Don't tell anyone.

What I worked on this weekend.

I promised to post more often and I have not.  Our quilt guild has a Quilt Show every other year and this is a show year.  Even though, I have a full-time job, I have made some commitments to put items in the Guild Store and the Flower Pot Raffle.  The deadlines are speeding toward me and I am sewing as fast as I can.  I wanted to show you what I have been working on.

These need to be hand sewn closed, ironed and quilted, but you can see my progress.

A Tablerunner for my Bee's entry in the Flower Pot Raffle.

Six Placemats to match Tablerunner.  Each placemat has 20 pieces in the seminole area.  That is 120 pieces.  I am adding seminole piecing to my list of do not do this, again.  The good news is, all six are at this finished stage and I am on the home stretch.  Did I mention that all of this is due by Feb. 16th and We still have to assemble all the items in a basket in an appealing presentation.

As I have mention before, there are only three members in our Bee at this time.  We are thrilled that another lady is interested in joining us and hope to see her at our next meeting.  

So, Carol has made Aprons for a family of four and wonderful chef hats for the Dad and Son.  She, also, sprayed a large picnic basket white and is providing three cookbooks about outdoor cooking and grilling.

Judith has made six napkins and four potholders for this project.

  

Judith and I, also, volunteered to have a workshop to make bunnies for the guild shop.  She is in the process of finishing these up.  So far, there are 22 finished.  Judith is the member of three Bees and put together a quilt top from exchange blocks for the Flower Pot Raffle.  This is where my money is going.  It is a beautiful scrappy quilt that needs to live with me.  It is with the quilter now.  I will try to get a picture, whether I win or not.  But I plan on winning!!!

A Comforting Hug for Mary

My cousin, Mary, suffered the worst loss that a Grandmother can.  Her beautiful Granddaughter was born with special needs.  She stayed here longer than expected, because of the Love and Care from a wonderful family.

I live about two hours away and felt helpless when I heard the news that she was gone.  I prayed for her immediate family and knew that only time would lessen their pain.  I can't be there to give Mary a comforting hug, when she needs it.  And I know there will be many, many days that she will need comforting.  I decided to make her a quilt, to wrap her in my love and comfort on those days.

This is the quilt that I made for Mary and I hope that she feels my arms around her, when she uses it.

Mug rugs for the New Year

Happy New Year, Can you believe it is 2011?  If you are like me, 2010 blew through like a speeding car.  I was looking at my postings and realized that I did not post once in December.  I was shocked.  What happened?  I promise to do better.

I did do a little quilting last month.  Making mug rugs and using selvedges has been rolling around in my mind for a while.  So, why not do both.   As I have said before, I belong to a  new quilt bee.  We are three members strong.  I joined a bee to do exchanges and round robins, but we need a few more members or those robins are going to be flying in tight circles.  We exchanged gifts for the holidays and this was one of the goodies that I put in their bag.

A mug rug made from selvedges.  I searched high and low for polka dotted cups.  I found these at Pier 1 and they, also, had beaded coasters with colored bells.  Our bee is called, "Night Divas", so I thought that we needed a diva coaster.

This is Carol's mug rug.  If you look in the top right corner, you will see a selvedge with Night and under it, one with Diva.  She started and named our bee, so she got the only Diva selvedge that I could find.

This is Judith's mug rug.  She has always had a poodle and loves dog fabric.  Top right has paws and the words, Little Paws and Ruff.

This mug rug is mine.  Notice the black and white skull fabric.  The selvedge says, "Bad to the Bone".  This is from the pirate quilt that I made for my son.
